In order to get more accurate results, our search has the following Google-Type search functionality:
If you use '+' in front of a word, then that word will be present in the search results.
ex: Harry +Potter will return results with the word 'Potter'.
If you use '-' in front of a word, then that word will be absent in the search results.
ex: Harry -Potter will return results without the word 'Potter'.
If you use 'AND' between two words, then both of those words will be present in the search results.
ex: Harry AND Potter will return results with both 'Harry' and 'Potter'.
If you use 'OR' between two words, then bth of those words may or may not be present in the search results.
ex: Harry OR Potter will return results with just 'Harry', results with just 'Potter' and results with both 'Harry' and 'Potter'.
If you use 'NOT' before a word, then that word will be absent in the search results.
ex: Harry NOT Potter will return results without the word 'Potter'.
Placing '""' around words will perform a phrase search. The search results will contain those words in that order.
ex: "Harry Potter" will return any results with 'Harry Potter' in them, but not 'Potter Harry'.
Using '*' in a word will perform a wildcard search. The '*' signifies any number of characters. Searches can not start with a wildcard.
ex: Pot*er will return results with words starting with 'Pot' and ending in 'er'. In this case, 'Potter' will be a match.
Reading and Activities
Kerry Malone will be reading from her book Sophie Makes New Friends
It's Sophie's first day at her new big city school. Without her old friends, who will sit with her at recess? Will she make new friends? She eventually finds the courage to say hello to Phoebe. Will Phoebe convince Sophie to join the skipping team?
Kerry Malone is a Canberra-based children's author. Her picture book You can do it Joey! was released in 2015 and her new chapter book, Sophie Makes New Friends is now available.
You can do it Joey! is suitable for 0-7 year olds. Joey is a young kangaroo who wants to jump fences and play with his cousins. He's scared and doesn't have the confidence to jump the fence but when he doesn't think about it over he goes.
Sophie Makes New Friends is perfect for emerging 6-9 year old readers. It tells Sophie's story as she moves to a city school and navigates making new friends.
Both books focus on similar themes of family, friendship and belonging. They explore issues around anxieties and suggest ways of overcoming these challenges.
Kerry has been involved in various literary events including the Goulburn Reader Writer Festival. She has spoken at ACT Branch events of the Children's Book Council of Australia and Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators.
She is very active in the writing community and has been invited to visit childcare centres, preschools and primary schools to read her books and chat to the children about the importance of reading and writing.
